About Dr. Nadraj G Naidoo

Dr. Naidoo obtained his MBChB (KZN) in 1988. He did his fellowship training in General Surgery in Durban and qualified for the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons (SA) in 1996.

Dr. Naidoo practiced as a Specialist Consultant Surgeon in Renal Transplantation at Addington Hospital, Durban from 1996 to 2001.

During this period, he also did a fellowship in Vascular Surgery in Durban, and was Board Certified in Vascular Surgery in 2001.Dr. Naidoo previous Head of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) / University of Cape Town (UCT). He held this post from April 2003 until his early retirement in December 2024. During his tenure at GSH/UCT, he developed the vascular infrastructure (Wards; Clinics; Theatre and Hybrid Cathlab) to modern specifications, encouraged performance and development of conventional and complex endovascular procedures for venous, peripheral arterial and aortic pathologies, developed the vascular curriculum for undergraduate students and postgraduate students. He also developed the vascular curriculum for vascular fellowship training and MPhil (Vascular Surgery) degrees.

Dr. Naidoo has given more than 90 presentations at vascular congresses and symposia nationally and internationally. He has authored / co-authored 36 publications in peer-reviewed local and international journals. He has also contributed to various book chapters. During his tenure as Head of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at GSH/UCT he has supervised/co-supervised numerous MMed and MPhil (Vascular Surgery) degrees, and has successfully trained 14 vascular surgeons, including graduates from Ghana, DRC, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

Dr. Naidoo has also been a convenor of numerous vascular congresses, symposia and national practice guidelines meetings. He has chaired, co-chaired and contributed as a member of the writing committee for numerous national vascular practice guidelines, which have been published in local peer-reviewed journals and on the Vascular Society of Southern Africa (VASSA) website. Dr. Naidoo has also been the course director of the Groote Schuur Vascular Ultrasound Course up until December 2023.
